Biggest ever Arapaima caught on fly by a female angler!
My old fishing buddy Joakim Lundberg from Sweden who also was a member of Jet Set fishing club from Gothenburg and also a member of the Swedish national Sea fishing team called me 2 weeks ago and asked if I could guide his 25 year old daughter Sandra in Hua Hin. She came with her boyfriend Martin who is a very skilled fly fisherman himself. I showed them our lakes and gave them a briefing about what we have in the lakes and some basic ideas about tackle and flies. The first night Sandra caught Redtail catfish, Chaophraya Catfish and Martin caught Pacu and Barramundi on fly.
The second night Sandra saw something big close to the banks and casted her fly in that direction and got a massive strike. She was almost spooled and had to run after the fish along the banks. She fought the fish for over an hour and finally succeeded in beaching it, what a massive fish it was!
I called Joakim and told him that he is definitely the father of Sandra and not the post man and also mailed him the images of the biggest ever Arapaima on fly by a female angler and maybe the biggest ever Arapaima on fly by any angler in the world!!!
Thank you Jonas for setting this up it was a great few days , please pass this along for me Trev
I guess I was not really surprised by how good the fishing was at Greenfield valley; it was good, very good. I managed to fulfill a long time goal of catching an Arapaima, in fact 4 of them and set a personal best for the biggest fish that I have ever caught.
What was surprising was the level of comfort, cleanliness and sheer beauty of the property, it is indeed a beautiful place and very well cared for as well.
But I think what really set Greenfield valley apart from the many other places I have fished in Thailand and in many other parts of the world was the service, from my host Dave Wilson whose company and expertise I greatly enjoyed, and also my guide Ning, who worked as hard as any guide I have fished with.
All of this alone would set this location apart from many others but it was the other staff in the Kitchen and such that really made my trip, they were always there and for me made the experience what it was. You see I was quite sick with a chest infection when I arrived and they seem to make it their personal goal to have me cured before I left. Within 30 minutes of arriving they had found medicine for me and this attention continued until I left 4 days later. I would like in particular to mention the little one from the kitchen ( she always had on a different hat every day, but I am unsure of her name Noy ?? maybe ?) She made me hot lemon and honey on several occasions, which really helped my coughing, and took great care of me during all of my stay.
All of the staff were great without exception, the food was terrific and was a highlight at the end of the day, I greatly enjoyed my stay there and really hope to return in the near future, don’t change anything you have the magic combination right, thank you to everyone for making it a great visit.
A big thank you to everyone, greenfield valley and its staff have set a standard that I am sure few will be able to match.
With Kindest regards

ABU Garcia Dream trip 2009
We got the honor to guide ABU Garcia in conjunction with Sweden and Denmark's biggest fishing magazines "Fiske Journalen: and "Fisk og Fri" 2009 Dream Trip as the only world-wide operator to do it for a second time (2001 we guided them to the Andaman Island Dream trip).
The first 3 day of the trip we fished at Stuart Gillham"s fantastic fishing resort in Krabi for Arapaima, Giant Siamese Carp and more of the hard fighting species in Stuart's lake.
The Danish angler Thorbjorn Lager, who won his seat on the dream trip on a huge Pike caught on fly in Denmark hooked a monster Arapaima on the last day in Krabi, he professionally fought the huge fish for a long time and after some nerve rattling moments when the big fish jumped out of the net and nearly knocked out the angler we were able to take some photos of it. The weight was estimated by Stuart and his son Sean to be 140 kg, 10 kg more than the present IGFA record. You find a short note from this fish on this page: http://www.fiskejournalen.se/Sites/Fiske/Default____25814.aspx?DataID=88331
The Swedish fishing Guide Ulf who won his seat on this year's Dream trip on a 196 kg Halibut caught in Norway also caught a big Arapaima, his fish was caught at night and fought very hard and jumped three times before getting into the big cage used as landing net. The fish was estimated by Stuart to be around 100 kg.
After a stop at a local temple to pray for good fishing luck we arrived at Cheow Lan by midday on the 4th day of the trip. After checking in at our floating ranger station and eating a quick lunch we were off to a fantastic jungle fishing adventure. Giant Snakehead, Hampala Barb, Blue and Thai Mahseer were caught on fly and on spin by the anglers and also the Film team and the Journalist enjoyed the action far up in the rivers we fished.
Altogether 250 Mahseer were caught and released. During the fishing we saw wild Elephants, Asian Sun bear, Tapir, huge Wild boar, massive Monitor Lizards, Gibbons, Monkeys, Hornbill Birds and many different kinds of Birds of Prey. Morten one of the Danish winners of the Dream trip hooked a big Mahseer the last day that opened his extra strong dry fly hook. He also saw a massive Mahseer estimated to 12-15kg under some overhanging trees far up in one of the rivers, the fish was impossible to cast to and never came out from its hiding place.
