The Giant Mekong Catfish (Pangasianodon gigas) can in the wild reach the weight of 350 kg (unconfirmed reports of 500kg) it is threatened in its natural domains, the Mekong river by dam building, dynamite blasting of its breeding areas and by excessive netting in the river. Fortunately for anglers they have been successfully bred and been stocked in many lakes and ponds around Thailand. Stocked fish have been caught up to 140kg (Bungsam Lan).
