Black Marlin Fishing

in Phuket waters is 200 to 300 lbs, but every year specimens around 500 lbs are caught. Further out at the Andaman Islands larger fish are avilable and the fishing can be very good during the building moon face and during the new moon.
Similan Area
The Black Marlin fishing around the "Thon Mai" twin seamounts in an area 13- miles west of the Similan Islands that rises from 250 meters depth to 70 and 90 meters respective is at its best from September through March. Trolling for Black Marlin can also be very productive along the drop off 6 miles west of the Similan Islands and also in deep water around the seamounts. There are now many F.A.D.s (fish aggregating devices) permanently put on top of the seamounts and we have had very fast trolling action close to them for: Dorado, Wahoo, Rainbow Runners, Yellowfin and Skipjack Tuna. These F.A.D.s also attract Sailfish and Marlin and so far we have hooked many big Marlin close to the F.A.D.s. The best action is normally around the new moon or around the full moon. 50 lbs and 80 lbs equipment is standard equipment here (Shimano Tiagra 50W LRS or 80W).
Andaman Islands
405 miles NW of Phuket and the rising star of new game fishing destinations world-wide! Along the drop offs and around the Volcanic Barren and Narcondam islands the Black Marlin action can be spectacular. This area is not heavily commercially fished and regularly produces big Black and Blue Marlin. The best action is normally around the new moon or around the full moon. We use heavy tackle, 80lbs and 130lbs bent but rods with Shimano Tiagra reels. You fly into Port Blair where our game boat is waiting for you.
The Andaman Islands belonging to India. After 50 years of virtual isolation from the outside world, the Indian government lifted its restricted access to the islands, and allowed limited environmentally friendly tourism development. It is only since 1993 that the Indian authorities have allowed scuba diving and sportfishing.
Commercial fishing is very light in most areas, which is one of the main reasons the waters of the Andaman Islands are "Teeming with fish." It is a vast area of almost 8,500 square kilometers, dotted with tropical islands and a submarine mountainous seascape providing an almost unlimited playground for game fish species and big-game fisherman.
We pioneered the first fishing trips to this magical area 8 years ago, which gives us the upper hand when it comes to terms of experience and knowledge of the species, and also the best fishing grounds.
Along the East and West coasts of Narcondam and Barren Islands there are drop-offs of 1000 to 2000 meters depth which attract huge Black and Blue Marlin, Broadbill Swordfish, Sailfish and a multitude of other highly sought after big-game species.

We support Catch and release of all Billfish and sharks. The fished showed dead on our photos has died from being tail wrapped or from exhaustion.
